Book title : "Fly the Wild and Stay Alive, A Bush Flight Training
Manual" by Hal Terry
255 pages, paper bound
Chapters.
Honing the required skills and attitudes
The plane, prop, engine, and undercarriage
Planning your wilderness flights
Riding the weather and avoiding hard knocks
Before landing plan takeoff and landing
Look / see final approaches
Securing your airplane/taking off
Wilderness survey pilot procedures and techniques
Survival flying in extreme conditions
This book is centered on flying in Alaska, however, it applies specifically
to many natural resource operations. Several of the chapters are devoted to aerial survey techniques, radio telemetry, dealing with observers and
safety.
I thought that it would be a good read for IANRP members as well as aspiring
natural resource pilots because it is quite technical. However, it is geared
somewhat toward the private pilot audience.
It does make you think in several areas though.
